The optical power of a signal changes after it is transmitted.
This change affects intensity and sensitivity of the signal. If the
optical power is too high or too low, bit errors or damage to optical
components may be caused, affecting the service. Querying the optical
power of the specific board is a common method used during maintenance to determine whether
the optical power has changed.
Prerequisites
- The fibers must be connected and the lasers must be enabled.
- The performance event monitoring function must be started.
Context
For the OTU boards, you can query the optical
power of client interface.
Procedure
- In the NE Explorer, select a board and choose from the Function Tree.
- Click Query to get the current optical power value from the NE.
- Check the current optical power value and compare it with
the reference value.
NOTE: If there is a big difference, you must check the historical
value to ensure that the optical power is normal.
- Optional: Record the
current optical value and compare it with the historical value.
