The optical transport network (OTN) is a new optical transport hierarchy defined in ITU-T G.872, G.798 and G.709, which consists of an optical layer and an electrical layer. In addition, the electrical layer and optical layer have a corresponding
management and monitoring mechanism and survivability mechanism.
The OptiX OSN 8800 T64(NA)/8800 T32(NA)/8800 T16(NA)/6800A/3800A completely supports the management overheads defined in ITU-T G.709. This involves following aspects:
- realizes ESC management by using the generic communication channel (GCC) bytes.
- uses the GCC0, GCC1, or GCC2 byte as the communication channel of the management information.
- supports monitoring of the SM overhead and PM overhead in the OTN frame and report of the performance events of the SM payload and PM payload.
- supports management of a maximum of six TCM sublayers.
In addition, the OptiX OSN 8800 T64(NA)/8800 T32(NA)/8800 T16(NA)/6800A/3800A/1800(NA) supports the monitoring overheads at the OTSn, OMSn and OCh layers defined in the OTN standard. Thus, the monitoring function at the OTN optical layer is achieved.
