Configuration Process

This section describes the process of configuring a bidirectional IPA protection group in project I. That is, the IPA from ONE A to ONE D and the IPA from ONE D and ONE A.

Procedure

  1. Select NE180 in the NE explorer and choose Configuration > IPA Management from the Function Tree. Click New to complete the configuration of IPA between ONE D and ONE A.Refer to Creating IPA. Set IPA attributes based on Table 1.

    Depending on the networking requirements in Table 1, the parameters involved for creating IPA are as follows:
    • Detection Card: Shelf1()-10-12OBU1-1(IN)

      From ONE D to ONE A, Shelf1()-10-12OBU1-1(IN) of sink NE180 is connected to source.

    • Shutdown Card: Shelf1()-15-12OAU1-4(OUT)

      From ONE A to ONE D, Shelf1()-15-12OAU1-4(OUT) of source NE180 is connected to sink NE183.

    • Raman Amplifier: Blank
    • Enable/Disable: Disabled

      Enable/Disable indicates that the IPA is effective or not immediately after the configuration. The Disabled is recommended during configuring. Set the parameter to Enabled after commissioning.

    • Restart Mode: Manual
    • Off Duration(s): 100
    • On Duration(s): 10.0

      How to set the value for the On Duration (s) field: According to the number of intermediate stations, check Table 2. It is in the interval from 0 to 5, the value 7.5s is obtained based on the ratio. Choose a value that is a little higher than 7.5s.

    • Testing Duration(s): 80
    • Safe Control Switch: On

  2. Select NE180 in the NE explorer. Refer to step 1 to complete the configuration of IPA between ONE A and ONE D.

    Depending on the networking requirements in Table 1, the parameters involved for creating IPA are as follows:
    • Detection Board: Shelf1()-10-12OBU1-1(IN)
    • Shutdown Board: Shelf1()-15-12OAU1-4(OUT)
    • Raman Amplifier: Null
    • Enable/Disable: Disabled
    • Restart Mode: Manual
    • Off Duration (s): 100
    • On Duration (s): 10.0 (The value taking in this step is the same as that in step 1.)
    • Testing Duration (s): 80
    • Safe Control Switch: On

  3. After you complete the commissioning, select in the NE Explorer the desired NE whose IPA is to be enabled and choose Configuration > IPA Management from the Function Tree to then enable IPA of the NE. For details, see Creating IPA. In the NE Explorer of the peer NE, enable IPA of the peer NE.
  4. Optional: When optical power attenuation decreases to such a level that IPA is automatically started, select in the NE Explorer the corresponding NE and choose Configuration > IPA Management from the Function Tree to set the restarting of IPA in the forward direction. See Setting the Restarting of IPA. In the NE Explorer of the peer NE, select the corresponding peer NE, and set the restarting of the peer NE in the backward direction of the IPA protection group.
