Configure the Detection Board and Shutdown Board as an IPA protection group at the station. The optical amplifier board that serves as the detect board detects optical signals on upstream links, and
the other optical amplifier board that serves as the control board controls power output for the station.
Prerequisites
You must be an NM user with "NE administrator" authority or higher.
The board that can be used as a detect board (or auxiliary detect board) and a control implementation board (such as the OAU1 or OBU1) must be created.
Procedure
- In the NE Explorer, click an NE and choose from the Function Tree.
- Click Query to query the created IPA information.
- Click New and the Create IPA dialog box is displayed.
- Select or enter the information of the IPA group. For related parameters, refer to Parameters.

NOTE: - You can set Detect Auxiliary Board when you create IPA . You can also configure detect auxiliary boards after the configuration of IPA pairs . You can select an IPA protection group and click Detect Auxiliary Board to configure detect auxiliary boards.
- Detection Board and Shutdown Board must be different physical boards. It is recommended that they are installed in the same NE. When you configure the master and slave subracks of the OptiX OSN 6800A/8800
T16 (NA)/8800 T32 (NA)/8800 T64 (NA), it is recommended to install the two boards in the master subrack.
- Enable/Disable indicates that the IPA is effective or not immediately after the configuration. The Disabled is recommended during configuring. Set the parameter to Enabled after commissioning.
- On Duration (s) is calculated based on the number of intermediate amplifier stations. For detailed calculation method, refer to Table 2.
- When configuring the IPA function of Raman systems, select the CRPC board as the Raman amplifier.
- After you set Raman Amplifier, you need to re-specify the detection threshold of the detection board in the Detection Board Alarm Threshold (dBm) field, and you can also choose whether to
set the Raman amplifier as the auxiliary detection board. That is, when you set Raman Alarm to Yes, and specify the Raman Board Threshold (dBm), you can use the alarms of the Raman board
as the condition to determine a fiber cut.
- Click OK. A prompt appears telling you that the operation was successful. Click Close.
- Start the NE Explorer of the opposite NE. Refer to Steps 1 through 5 to create the IPA on the opposite NE.
- Optional: After equipment commissioning, click an NE in the NE Explorer. Choose in the Function Tree. Select the IPA to be enabled.
Double-click the Enable/Disable parameter field and set it to Enabled. Click Apply to take the operation into effect. Perform the enabled operation to the opposite NE.
