IPA function can be configured according to customers' requirements.
Network Configuration Principles
- For basic application, IPA function is used in the following scenario: no wavelength is added/dropped and no electrical generator is used between the sections. When the IPA function is used in long haul transmission, if no wavelength is add/dropped
over the link, you need to configure an IPA pair at the first and last nodes. The user only needs to configure:
- One optical amplifier board as the detection board
- Another optical amplifier as the shutdown board (control executive board)
- Corresponding control parameters
- For complex applications, add the auxiliary detection board (for the detection of service signals).
- Ensure that the communication between NEs is normal during the configuration of the IPA. Otherwise, error messages will be returned when an inter-NE IPA pair is configured. IPA may be ended abnormally if the communication between NEs
turns abnormal and cannot be started again until the communication between NEs turns normal.
- To ensure normal communication between NEs, the NE software version of each node involved in the communication should be the same.
- After the configuration of one IPA pair, create IPA pairs at the opposite end of the line or at the other sites to complete the entire IPA process. Ensure that the IPAs are pair.
NE Configuration Principles
- If any auxiliary detection board is needed, ensure that an OSC is configured at the optical amplifier stations in the network element (NE).
- When optical amplifiers are configured as detection boards only, IPA must only be configured at the first node and the last node of the link. When there is a fiber break, the amplifiers at the first node and the last node of the link will be shut
down.
- To fulfill the IPA function and judge the fiber break more accurately, detection board and auxiliary detection board must be configured at the same time. IPA must be configured at every node. When there is a fiber break, the amplifiers before and
behind the broken fiber will be shut down.
- The optical signals of the detect auxiliary board should be in the same direction as the optical signals transmitted by the main optical path. This is the condition of auxiliary detection.
- Configure the IPA protection group in pairs on the two end stations of the IPA link. If there are multiple stations between two OTMs, configure the IPA only at the two stations other than multiple sections. If you configure IPA at each station,
all IPA protection is started upon a fiber cut and it takes a long time to recover services.
