Configuring Board Dispersion Compensation

During network routine maintenance, you can set dispersion compensation for the LSXL/LSXLR board to compensate for the transmission fiber dispersion deviation that results from factors such as ambient temperature changes.

Prerequisites

Applicable to the LSXL and LSXLR boards.

Background Information

Configuration principle:
  • Configuration mode 1: Search the best dispersion compensation value and apply the configuration.
  • Configuration mode 2: Manually set the dispersion compensation value and apply the configuration.

Precaution

NOTICE:

If the configured dispersion compensation value is incorrect, this operation may interrupt services. Hence, use the best dispersion compensation value searched out.

Procedure

  1. In the NE Explorer, select the board to be configured, and choose Configuration > Dispersion Compensation.
  2. Click Query, and you can query the dispersion compensation parameter.

  3. Select the unit port or channel. Click State and choose OOS to set the Primary, Secondary State.
  4. Select the desired port, and click Start Scan. Click OK in the dialog box displayed, and the search status changes to ADJUSTING.
  5. After successful search, the search status changes to SUCCESS. Click Query, and the currently best dispersion compensation value is displayed.

    NOTE:

After successful search, only the search status automatically changes. Other parameters do not change until you query them.

When you start searching the best value, you cannot set the dispersion compensation value.

  6. Optional: Double-click the Auto Adjust field and set the value in this field to ENABLE or DISABLE.

    NOTE:

After you enable the Auto Adjust, the board may be finely tuned and the query result of the dispersion compensation value may change.

  7. Optional: When you manually set the dispersion compensation value, double-click the TDC Value (ps/nm) field and set the dispersion compensation value.

    NOTE:

The dispersion compensation value must be in the dispersion compensation range.

  8. Click Apply. Click OK in the dialog box displayed to apply the configuration.
  9. Select the unit port or channel. Click State and choose IS to set the Primary, Secondary State.

Parameters

Table 1 describes the parameters involved in dispersion compensation.

Signal Validation Timer

00-15 to 48-00

Indicates the signal validation timer.

Auto Adjust

ENABLE, DISABLE

Selects whether to use the fine tune switch. When the fine tune switch is set to ENABLE, adjust the dispersion compensation value in the fine adjustment rage to obtain the best dispersion compensation.

TDC State

IDLE, SUCCESS, FAIL, ADJUSTING

Displays the search status of the best dispersion compensation.

TDC Value (ps/ nm)

-400 to 400

Displays the best dispersion compensation queried from the NE after successful search or the dispersion compensation value that you set.

TDC Min (ps/nm)

For example: -400

Displays the minimum dispersion compensation queried from the NE.

TDC Max (ps/ nm)

For example: 400

Displays the maximum dispersion compensation queried from the NE.

TDC Step (ps/nm)

For example: 10

Indicates the adjustment step adopted dispersion compensation modules.
