Creating EPL Services

This section describes the configuration of EPL services on a station.

Prerequisites

It applies to the Ethernet board: LEM18, 11LEX4, 11LEM24, L4G and TBE.

Background Information

The following are the three types of EPL services that can be configured on the NM.
  • EPL services between PORT and VCTRUNK ports.
  • EPL services between VCTRUNK and VCTRUNK ports.
  • EPL services between PORT and PORT ports.
For the above three types of services, if the source VLAN ID and sink VLAN ID are different, this VLAN is a switched VLAN. To configure VLAN SNCP at the receive end of services, the source VLAN ID and sink VLAN ID must be the same.

Precaution

NOTE:

Setting the parameters of a port affect the service of the board. Before setting the parameters of a port, configure State of the port as OOS at the Ethernet Interface. After setting the parameters, restore State of the port to IS.

Procedure

  1. Select the desired Ethernet board on the NE Explorer, and choose Configuration > Ethernet Service > Ethernet Line Service from the Function Tree. Click the EPL Service tab.
  2. Click New on the bottom of the interface on the right. The Create Ethernet Line Service dialog box is displayed.
  3. Select EPL from the Service Type drop-down list.
  4. Enter the attributes of the Ethernet service on the dialog box.

    NOTE:

The service direction can be unidirectional only.

Under Port Attributes, Port Enabled and TAG of ports can be set on the Create Ethernet Line Service dialog box or on Ethernet Interface. For details on how to configure the attributes of Ethernet ports, refer to Configuring the Attributes of Ethernet Interfaces.

  5. Click OK, and the created EPL service is displayed on the interface.
  6. Optional: If the VLAN SNCP is required at the receive end of services, after creating Ethernet services at the transmit end, double-click the OAM Enabled field corresponding to the Ethernet services and set it to Enabled. Click Apply.

    NOTE:

If the VLAN SNCP is created on the TBE board, the OAM function does not need to be enabled in view of bandwidth utilization in the case of heavy traffic; the OAM function should be enabled in the case of light traffic.
