Configuring a Loopback Test

You can perform a loopback (LB) check on Ethernet services without interrupting services to check the connectivity of the services for locating and handling faults.

Prerequisites

  • The source and sink MEPs, and MIPs in the same maintenance domain must be created.
  • Only MEPs can initiate the LB test, but both the MEP and MIP can work as the receive end in the test.

Background Information

During the LB check, the source MEP constructs and transmits the LBM frames and starts the timer. If the destination MP receives the LBM frames, it sends the LBR frames back to the source MEP. This indicates that the loopback is successful. If the source MEP timer times out, the loopback fails.

Procedure

  1. In the NE Explorer, select an Ethernet board and choose Configuration > Ethernet Maintenance > Ethernet Service OAM from the Function Tree.
  2. Select the node that you want to monitor, click OAM Operation and select Start LB. The LB Test dialog box is displayed.
  3. Enter the LB test source maintenance point ID and sink maintenance point ID.

    NOTE:
    • Before you perform the check, set an appropriate LB Timeout (ms) as required.
    • If you want to perform the check based on the MAC address of the sink maintenance point, select Test Based on the MAC Address and enter the MAC address of the sink maintenance point.

  4. Click Start LB and the check result is displayed.
