Creating IF 1+1 Protection

If the microwave link adopts 1+1 HSB/FD/SD protection, you need to create the corresponding IF 1+1 protection group.

Prerequisites

The IF boards and their corresponding ODUs that form the IF 1+1 protection must be included in the NE Panel.

Background Information

When a 1+0 service is converted into a 1+1 service by configuring the 1+1 protection, the original services are not interrupted.

NOTICE:

The 18,2E1,3.5MHz,QPSK work mode does not support IF 1+1 protection.

For RTN 310s or RTN 905s (Subrack Type: III) or RTN 380s, two identical RTN 310s or RTN 905s (Subrack Type: III) or RTN 380s form an IF 1+1 protection group. One acts as the active NE, and the other acts as the standby NE. The two NEs are always connected through HSM ports. You need to configure IF 1+1 protection for both active and standby NEs with the same settings.

  • For RTN 310s and RTN 380s, IF 1+1 protection groups can be created in LAG protection. Before creating IF 1+1 protection groups, create link aggregation groups (LAGs) for the service ports of the active and standby NEs.
  • For RTN 905s, you do not need to create LAG protection. When configuring IF 1+1 protection, create the IF 1+1 protection on work unit and protection unit in turn. Also, you do not need to configure the service port.
NOTE:
  • The management channel between the active and standby NEs is available only after IF 1+1 protection is configured for both of them. Neighboring NE information can be queried only after IF 1+1 protection is configured.
  • The LAG protection type requires LAG configuration.
  • Each LAG must be a static LAG and contain only one member. The member port is a service port of the desired IF 1+1 protection group.
  • When you create an IF 1+1 protection group, create LAG before creating the 1+1 protection group. When you delete an IF 1+1 protection group, delete the 1+1 protection group before deleting LAG.

Procedure

  1. For RTN 310s or RTN 905s (Subrack Type: III) or RTN 380s, take RTN 310 as example.
    1. In the NE Explorer, choose Configuration > IF 1+1 Protection from the navigation tree.
    2. Click New.
    3. In the Create IF 1+1 Protection dialog box, click the Link Aggregation Group Management link. In the window that is displayed, create a LAG for the active NE. During the creation, select the service port of the active NE as the member port.
    4. Configure IF 1+1 protection for the active NE. In the Create IF 1+1 Protection dialog box, set Active/Standby Unit Type to Active Unit, Service Port to the service port in the LAG of the active NE, and other parameters as required.
    5. Configure IF 1+1 protection for the standby NE. In the Create IF 1+1 Protection dialog box, set Active/Standby Unit Type to Standby Unit, Service Port to the service port in the LAG of the standby NE, and other parameters as required.
    6. Click OK.
  2. For the other NEs, take RTN 950s as example.
    1. Select the NE from the Object Tree in the NE Explorer. Choose Configuration > Link Configuration from the Function Tree.
    2. Click the IF 1+1 Protection tab.
    3. Click New. Set the parameters of the IF 1+1 protection group in the displaying dialog box.

    4. Click OK.

Follow-up Procedure

  • In the case of the 1+1 HSB protection and 1+1 SD protection, you need to configure the IF/ODU information of the active microwave link later. The standby microwave link automatically copies the related information of the active microwave link except the transmission status of the ODU.
  • In the case of the 1+1 FD protection, you need to configure the IF/ODU information of the active microwave link and the information of the standby ODU later. The standby microwave link automatically copies the IF information of the active microwave link.
NOTE:

The default TX Status of an ODU is Unmute. Hence, you do not need to configure the TX Status of the standby ODU after you create an IF 1+1 protection group.
