Setting the Board Working Mode

Before using a board, you need to set the board and port working modes based on the site conditions.

Prerequisites

Board-level mode changes require boards to be free of cross-connections.

Board-level mode changes require optical ports to be free of logical fibers.

Context

NOTICE:
Board-level mode changes may interrupt services.

For details about board and port working modes, see Overview of the Working Mode(NG WDM NEs).

Procedure

  1. Open the NE Panel and double-click a board on it, or right-click the board and choose Path View from the shortcut menu.
  2. In the path view, right-click in a blank area and choose Port Attribute from the shortcut menu.
  3. In the Port Attribute dialog box, set Work Mode to the desired mode on the Board Mode tab.

    NOTE:
    To set the working mode of a board in the NE Explorer, do as follows:
    1. In the NE Explorer, select a board and choose Configuration > Work Mode from the navigation tree.
    2. On the Board Working Mode tab, select the desired mode.
    3. Click Apply.

  4. Click Apply. In the Confirm dialog box informing you that the operation may interrupt services or cause NE login failures, click Yes. When the Confirm dialog box is displayed again, click Yes.
  5. Click the Port Mode tab, select an optical port, and set Port Working Mode to the desired mode.

    NOTE:
    To set the working mode of an optical port in the NE Explorer, do as follows:
    1. In the NE Explorer, select a board and choose Configuration > Work Mode from the navigation tree.
    2. Click the Port Working Mode tab, select an optical port, and set Port Working Mode to the desired mode.
    3. Click Apply.

  6. Click Apply. In the Confirm dialog box informing you that the operation may interrupt services or cause NE login failures, click Yes. When the Confirm dialog box is displayed again, click Yes.
