Querying Optical Power of a Board

The optical power of a signal changes after it is transmitted. This change affects intensity and sensitivity of the signal. If the optical power is too high or too low, damage to optical components or bit errors may be caused, affecting the service. Querying optical power is a common maintenance method.

Prerequisites

  • The fibers must be connected and the lasers must be enabled.
  • The performance event monitoring function must be started.

Context

For the OTU boards, you can query the optical power of client interface.

Procedure

  1. In the NE Explorer, select the desired board and choose Configuration > Optical Power Management from the navigation tree.
  2. Click Query to read relevant optical power parameters from the NE side.
  3. Check the current optical power value and compare it with the reference value.
    1. In the NE Explorer, select a board and choosePerformance > History Performancefrom the Function Tree.
    2. In the right pane, selectTransmitted Optical Power,Received Optical Power, andSave to Database.Set other parameters to proper values(USP Platform).
    3. ClickQueryto obtain the historical performance data from the NE.

      NOTE:

Save to Databasecan be set only when theQuery from NEis checked.

    4. Compare the optical power in the historical performance data list with the current optical power to determine whether the optical power is normal.
  4. Optional: Record the current optical value and compare it with the historical value.
  5. Optional: Select the port for which you want to set the reference optical power. Double-click parameters, such as Input Power, Reference Working Lower Threshold, and Reference Working Upper Threshold, and set values for the parameters. Click Apply to deliver the configuration. The Operation Result dialog box is displayed, indicating that the operation is successful. Click Close.

    NOTE:

If user changes the optical power threshold, a Confirm dialog box is displayed, indicating that the value of optical power threshold has been changed.

  6. Optional: Click Save As to save optical power information as a file in the CSV, HTML, TXT, or XLS format.
