Guaranteeing Laser Performance

The input optical power and output optical power of the board ports are important indexes to measure the laser performance. Laser performance is crucial for the quality and transmission distance of signals. To keep the entire transmission system running stably, you must guarantee the laser performance. That is, control the input and output optical power of the ports and the fluctuation of the upper and lower threshold of the input optical power within the appropriate range, and correct or alert the optical power offset.

Prerequisites

  • The board that monitors the optical power must be created.

Procedure

  1. Choose Configuration > Optical Power Management from the main menu (traditional style); alternatively, double-click Fix-Network NE Configuration in Application Center and choose Configuration > Optical Power Management from the main menu (application style).
  2. In the NE list, select a board and click .
  3. Click Query to query the optical power information from the NE.

A prompt is displayed indicating that the operation is successful.
  4. Double-click a cell in the Reference Input Power (dBm) or the Reference Output Power (dBm) column to specify the corresponding power reference value.

    NOTE:

If the power values that you query are correct, perform the following operations to specify the reference values:

    • Right-click a cell in the Reference Input Power (dBm) column and choose Copy Input Power from the shortcut menu.
    • Right-click a cell in the Reference Output Power (dBm) column and choose Copy Output Power from the shortcut menu.

If the user changes the optical power threshold, the Confirm dialog box is displayed, indicating that the optical power threshold has been changed.

If an optical power reference value exceeds the reference value range, the reference value cannot be copied and used as the reference value of another board. In this case, you need to enter a reference value.

  5. Click Apply. The power offset is based on these values.
  6. Optional: Click Reset Network-Wide Reference Values. The Confirm dialog box is displayed. Click Yes to set network-wide optical power values to reference values. The previously entered reference values are overwritten.
