Configuring PRBS Test on the Meter Board

In the PRBS test, the OTU sends out the PRBS code and monitors the PRBS code that is looped back from the remote board. After comparing the PRBS code that is sent with the code that is received, you can determine that the current link or equipment is normal or not.

Prerequisites

The corresponding OTU must be configured.

The service type must be set according to the board type.

Before enabling the PRBS test on the client side, ensure that the client-side lasers of all OTU boards are turned on.

When enabling the PRBS test, you need to enable PRBS Test Status of the port on the board.

Background Information

In the case of OptiX OSN 3800, the LQMS, LQMD, LOM, LOG, LQG, LDMD, LDMS, LDM, LQM, 11LEM24, 11LEX4 boards, only the WDM side supports the PRBS function of sending PRBS signals. In the case of the LSX, 11LOA and TMX boards, both the client and WDM sides support the PRBS function of sending PRBS signals.

In the case of OptiX OSN 6800, the LQMS, LQMD, LOM, LOG, TDX, LSXL, LSQ, ND2, LQG, LDMD, LDMS, LDM, 52NS3, 54NS3, 52NQ2, 52TQX, LQM, 11LEM24, 11LEX4 boards, only the WDM side supports the PRBS function of sending PRBS signals. In the case of the LSX, 11LOA and TMX boards, both the client and WDM sides support the PRBS function of sending PRBS signals.

In the case of OptiX OSN 8800 series, the LQMS, LQMD, LOM, LOG, TDX, LSXL, LSQ, ND2, LDMD, LDMS, LDM, LQM, 52NS3, 54NS3, 52NQ2, 52TQX, 11LEM24, 11LEX4, NO2, LSC boards, only the WDM side supports the PRBS function of sending PRBS signals. In the case of the LSX, 11LOA and TMX boards, both the client and WDM sides support the PRBS function of sending PRBS signals.

In the case of OptiX OSN 1800 series, both the client and the WDM sides of the LSX support the PRBS function.

This section describes the PRBS test on the meter board. For details on how to set the PRBS Test Status field of the auxiliary board, refer to Configuring the PRBS Test Status of the Auxiliary Board.

NOTICE:

Performing a PRBS test interrupts services.

Precautions

NOTICE:

When the PRBS test is performed, it is not allowed to access services. A PRBS test is used only in deployment. After the deployment, set PRBS Test Status to Disabled.

Procedure

  1. In the NE Explorer, select a board and choose Configuration > PRBS Test from the Function tree.
  2. Select a channel or a port in the right interface, and set Duration and Measured in Time.

    NOTE:

Measured in Time: The unit is second, 10 minute, or hour. Select a proper unit based on the actual situation.

  3. Optional: Choose Accumulating Mode. The test result is displayed in the coordinates pane in an accumulative manner.

    NOTE:

In a cumulative mode, the bit error value in the n second is the sum of the bit errors in the previous n seconds.

  4. Click Start to Test. A dialog box indicating that this operation may interrupt the service is displayed.
  5. Click OK to start the PRBS test.
  6. After the test is complete, view the test result in the coordinates pane.

    NOTE:
    • If the green histogram is displayed in the coordinates pane, the equipment is normally working.
    • If the red histogram is displayed in the coordinates pane, bit errors exist on the line.
    • If the yellow histogram is displayed in the coordinates pane, the line might be interrupted or have loud noise.

  7. Optional: Click Print to print the result of the PRBS test.

Result

After the test, right-click the area where the optical interface information is displayed and choose Clear Result from the shortcut menu to clear the test result.
