Automatic laser shutdown is a function of automatically shutting down the laser when there is no input light and the laser stops emitting optical signals. For example, when an optical interface board does not bear services, a fault occurs
on the fiber, or the received optical signals are lost, the laser is automatically turned off. This reduces the on period of the laser, extends the service life of the laser, and prevents hazardous laser radiation exposure from causing permanent eye
damage.
Prerequisites
The OTU board must be created.
Procedure
- In the NE Explorer, select a board and choose from the Function Tree. Select the By Function option button.
- Set Automatic Laser Shutdown.
- Select By Function. In the drop-down list, select Automatic Laser Shutdown. Click Query, and the list of the parameters for each optical interface or channel is displayed
in the user interface.
- Select the required optical interface, and then set Automatic Laser Shutdown to Enabled.

- Click Apply.
- Optional: Set ALS Auxiliary Condition.
- Select By Board/Port(Channel) . In the drop-down list, select Channel. Click Query, and the list of the parameters for each optical interface or channel is displayed in
the user interface.
- Select the required optical interface, and click the value setting area of parameter ALS Auxiliary Condition to select the auxiliary condition for ALS in the displayed dialog box.
- Click Apply.
- Set Hold-off Time of Automatic Laser Shutdown and Hold-off Time of Automatic Laser Turn-On.
- Select By Board/Port(Channel) . In the drop-down list, select Channel. Click Query, and the list of the parameters for each optical interface or channel is displayed in
the user interface.
- Select the required optical interface, and then set Hold-off Time of Automatic Laser Shutdown or Hold-off Time of Automatic Laser Turn-Onaccording to Table 1.

Description
|
Hold-off Time of Automatic Laser Shutdown
|
0s to 2s, step:100ms
Default: 0s
|
Specifies the hold-off time for automatically disabling lasers. With ALS enabled, the hold-off time is a time period from the point when the system detects service interruption to the point when ALS automatically shuts down the related lasers.

Hold-off Time of Automatic Laser Turn-On
|
0s to 2s, step:100ms
Default: 0s
|
Specifies the hold-off time for automatically enabling lasers. With ALS enabled, the hold-off time is a time period from the point when the system detects service recovery to the point when ALS automatically enables the related lasers.
