Configuring the U2000 Web LCT to Carry VLAN IDs in the Transmitted Packets

This topic describes how to configure the driver on the U2000 Web LCT to carry VLAN IDs in the transmitted packets, which is a requirement for the U2000 Web LCT to manage OptiX RTN 310 NEs.

Prerequisites

All required driver files are prepared.

Context

The U2000 Web LCT needs to carry VLAN IDs when communicating with OptiX RTN 310 NEs. Therefore, the computer where the U2000 Web LCT is installed must be configured before OptiX RTN 310 NEs are created. If the NIC supports VLAN IDs in the transmitted packets, enable the desired network service. If the NIC does not support VLAN IDs in the transmitted packets, use the driver provided by the U2000 Web LCT for configuration.

NOTE:

The U2000 Web LCT manages OptiX RTN 310 through service interface, so the U2000 Web LCT needs to carry VLAN IDs when communicating with OptiX RTN 310 .

The driver path is [Web LCT installation directory]\weblct\tools\[driver].

This topic uses the Window XP-based U2000 Web LCT as an example.

Procedure

  1. Install the U2000 Web LCT driver.
    1. Prepare and install driver files. Decompress the driver folder to a local disk and ensure that the folder contains the muxp.inf, mux_mp.inf, mux.sys, and mux.dll files.
    2. Choose Start > Control Panel.
    3. In the Control Panel, double click Network Connections.
    4. Right-click the Local Area Connection icon and choose Properties from the shortcut menu. The Local Area Connection Properties dialog box is displayed.

    5. Click Install, choose Protocol, and click Add.

    6. Click Have Disk. Browse the driver folder on the local disk, choose the muxp.inf file, and click OK.

    7. Choose Sample Mux-IM Protocol Driver and click OK to start installing the MUX driver.

      NOTE:

During the installation, a warning dialog box is displayed indicating that this driver is not digitally signed. Ignore the warning dialog box and continue to install the driver.

  2. Enable the network connection available for the U2000 Web LCT to carry VLAN IDs in the transmitted packets.
    1. Choose the Sample MUX-IM Virtual Miniport Driver in Connected status and click. On the General tab, click Configure.

    2. In the Sample MUX-IM Virtual Miniport Driver Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab and set the VLAN ID.

      NOTE:

When the VLAN ID is set to 0, the VLAN ID function is disabled when the NIC of the computer sends TCP packets. When the VLAN ID is not 0, the VLAN ID function is enabled.

The VLAN ID for creating services is set for each OptiX RTN 310 device before delivery. The U2000 Web LCT can manage an OptiX RTN 310 NE only when its VLAN ID is set to be the same as that of the OptiX RTN 310.
