Creating an NE (Searching for the NE)

To manage NEs, you must first create NEs on the U2000 Web LCT. This topic describes how to create an NE by searching for the NE, and then adding the NE.

Prerequisites

The NE must be connected to the computer that has the U2000 Web LCT installed.

The network communication between the U2000 Web LCT and the NE must be normal.

The U2000 Web LCT needs to carry VLAN IDs when communicating with OptiX RTN 310 NEs. Therefore, the computer where the U2000 Web LCT is installed must be configured before OptiX RTN 310 NEs are created. If the NIC supports VLAN IDs in the transmitted packets, enable the desired network service. If the NIC does not support VLAN IDs in the transmitted packets, use the driver provided by the U2000 Web LCT for configuration. For details, see Configuring the U2000 Web LCT to Carry VLAN IDs in the Transmitted Packets.

Context

You can create an NE by searching for the NE and the adding NE on the U2000 Web LCT. In addition, you can create an NE by adding the NE manually. Generally, the NE ID is not known during the initial NE configuration. Hence, the searching method is used to create an NE in most cases.

You can search for the NE by quick search and advanced search.

  • Quick search: The NEs that have been searched out are added to the NE list and logged in to automatically You can switch to the NE Explorer directly from the Search NE dialog box, which facilitates NE management.
  • Advanced search: The NEs that have been searched out are added and logged in to manually.
NOTE:

Before searching for NEs, add the corresponding gateway NEs to the U2000 Web LCT. Otherwise, logging in to the searched NEs may fail.

Procedure

  1. Quick search:
    1. In the NE List, click NE Search > NE Search. The Search NE dialog box is displayed.

    2. Click NMS Port or User Port to start an automatic search.

      NOTE:
      • If you click NMS Port, you will search out the NEs in the same network segment as the local IP address will be searched out.
      • If you click User Port, NEs whose service ports are directly connected to the U2000 Web LCT will be searched out. It is generally used to search for OptiX RTN 310 NEs.

    3. The IP addresses of the searched out NEs are displayed in the NE IP Address drop-down list. In the NE IP Address drop-down list, select the desired IP address for NE creation and click Apply. The NE Explorer is displayed. The NE list shows that the NE has been added and logged in to automatically.
  2. Advanced search:
    1. In the NE List, click NE Search > Advanced Search. The Search NE dialog box is displayed.

    2. In the Search NE dialog box, specify the search mode and set the network segment as required, User Name, and Password. Click Search.

      NOTE:

You can search for NEs in the following three modes:

      • Search NE: This mode is used to search out all NEs in the specified network segment.
      • IP auto discovery: This mode is used when you fail to enter the correct network segment. By IP auto discovery, you can obtain the IP addresses of the GNEs and search out all NEs that connect to the GNEs. This mode applies only to the GNEs that connect to the U2000 Web LCT directly.
      • Search by user port: This mode is used to search out NEs whose service ports are directly connected to the U2000 Web LCT. This mode is generally used to search for OptiX RTN 310 NEs.

Click Display uncreated NEs. Only the uncreated NEs are displayed.

    3. After the desired NE is searched out, click End Search.
    4. Select the NE to be added and click Add NE. A prompt message is displayed indicating that the NE is added successfully.
