Diffserv Domain Management

As a node in the DiffServ domain, the equipment can perform QoS control over the service traffic. For this purpose, first configure a DiffServ domain for the equipment.

For RTN NEs, in the NE Explorer, click the NE and choose Configuration > QoS Management > Diffserv domain Management > Diffserv domain Management from the Function Tree.

Guideline

As a node in the DiffServ domain, the equipment supports creating the DiffServ domain according to the physical ports. Each NE supports a maximum of eight DiffServ domains.

By default, there is a DiffServ domain for the equipment. Before any DiffServ domain is created, all ports belong to this default domain.

To create a DiffServ domain, perform the following operations:
  • Create mapping relations in the DiffServ domain, which include the mapping relation between the priorities of user packets in both the ingress and egress directions, and the PHB service levels.
  • Configure the physical ports that use the mapping relations, that is, add the physical ports to this domain.

Table 1 lists the service quality that corresponds to the PHB service level.

BE

The focus is on the reachability. The quality of forwarding services is not required. BE is the default PHB service level. All DS nodes should support the BE PHB.

AF1

The service traffic is allowed to exceed the specified range. For the traffic within the specified range, forwarding quality is ensured. For the traffic beyond the specified range, the forwarding quality is lowered and such traffic is not simply discarded.

This PHB service level is applicable for transmission of multimedia services.

Each AF level is further divided into three discarding priorities (color). For example, the AF1 level is further divided into the following discarding priorities.
  • AF11, green priority. Traffic with this priority can normally pass.
  • AF12, yellow priority. Packets with this priority are discarded in the case of congestion according to requirements.
  • AF13, red priority. Packets with this priority are discarded first.

On any conditions, traffic sent by any DS node should be at the specified rate or higher.

The forwarding effect in a virtual lease line is then simulated. In this way, the forwarding service of low packet loss rate, low delay and high bandwidth is provided. This PHB service level is applicable to video services and VoIP services.

To create a DiffServ domain, create mapping relationships in the DiffServ domain, and configure ports that use the mapping relationships.
NOTE:
  • In the case of the DSCP priority, if the DSCP value is not within the range specified in the previous table, the PHB service level is BE.
  • When the mode of an Ethernet interface is modified, this Ethernet interface returns to the default DiffServ domain. The mapping relationship of the service configured on this port is created according to the relationship of the default C-VLAN type and the PHB service level.

Delete

Select the DiffServ domain to be deleted. Click Modify in the Application Object tab. The Config Ports dialog box is displayed. All ports chosen in this domain are deleted. Click OK. Click Delete, delete the DiffServ domain selected successful.

NOTE:

To delete a DiffServ domain, first delete the ports involved in the DiffServ domain, and then delete the mapping relationships in the DiffServ domain. If the DiffServ domain contains any port, the mapping relationships cannot be successfully deleted.

The default DiffServ cannot be deleted.

Apply

The configuration takes effect only by clicking Apply after the diffserv domain parameters are modified.

NOTE:

The default DiffServ cannot be modified.

Query

Select the Diffserv domain for the query. Click the Applied Object tab and click Query. Port information that uses this domain is displayed.
NOTE:

The Diffserv domain to be query is applied to ports on the NE.

Modify

Select the specified Diffserv domain. Click the Applied Object tab and click Modify. The applied port and packet type can be modified.

Set the ID of the mapping relations. The ID identifies a set of mapping relations.

C-VLAN

Set the priority of the C-VLAN.

C-VLAN indicates the client-side VLAN. 7 indicates the highest priority.

S-VLAN

0 to 7

Set the priority of the S-VLAN. S-VLAN indicates the network-side VLAN. 7 indicates the highest priority.

DEI S-VLAN

0 to 15

Set the priority of the DEI S-VLAN.

DEI S-VLAN indicates that a discard priority is attached on the S-VLAN.

IP DSCP

0 to 63

Set the priority of the IP DSCP.

The DSCP section is a part of the service type section of the IP header, and labels the priority on packets.

MPLS EXP

0 to 7

Set the priority of the MPLS EXP.

EXP indicates the three bits of the MPLS packets, and carries the Diffserv information in the MPLS.

This parameter can be set only when Mapping Relationship ID is set to 1.

PHB

BE, AF11, AF12, AF13, AF21, AF22, AF23, AF31, AF32, AF33, AF41, AF42, AF43, EF, CS6, CS7

IETF defines 16 standard PHBs.

  • BE: Indicates the traffic that need not be processed exceptionally.
  • AF1-AF4: Indicates the guaranteed forwarding. The CoS is applicable to the service that requires a certain rate, but does not limit the delay or jitter.
  • EF: Indicates fast forwarding. The CoS is applicable to the service of little delay and packet loss rate, such as the audio and video services.
  • CS6-CS7: Indicates the highest service class. The CoS is applicable to transport of signaling.

Packet Type

CVLAN, SVLAN, IP-DSCP, MPLS-EXP

Set the packet type.

One Diffserv domain may have many types of packets, such as the IP packets, VLAN packets, and MPLS packets. A set of mapping relations are available to use one ID to identify the mapping entities for configuration. The mapping relations are also used on ports.

Board

The format is Slot number - Board name.

List ports on the selected boards.

Available Port

Slot number - Board name- Port number (customize the port name)

List the ports available on the board.

Selected Port

Slot number - Board name- Port number (customize the port name)

List selected ports on the board.

Port

Slot number - Board name- Port number (customize the port name)

Display selected ports.
