OSPF Parameter Settings

In this user interface, you can query parameters for OSPF protocol, and modify DCC interface and LAN interface parameters.

Navigation Path

  • In the NE Explorer, choose Communication > IP Protocol Stack Management from the navigation tree. Click the OSPF Parameter Settings tab.
NOTE:

For RTN equipment, the OSPF area configured in this user interface is default OSPF area. If you want to configure other OSPF areas, refer to Multi-area OSPF Management.

Parameter Description

Displays the NE Name.

Area

For example: 129.9.0.1

Indicates the area where the NE resides.

According to the OSPF protocol, a large network needs to be divided into multiple areas for management. The OSPF protocol applies to equipment in the same area only.

DCC Hello Timer (s)

1 to 255

Unit: second

Default: 10

Indicates the timer for sending hello packets at the DCC interface.

Hello packets are used to detect the neighbors in the network where the router resides. Sending hello packets on a regular basis helps check whether the neighbor router interface is in the active state.

DCC Neighbor Dead Time (s)

1 to 65535

Unit: second

Default: 40

Indicates the neighbor dead time for the DCC interface.

If the local router receives no hello packets from the neighbor router after the period in the DCC Neighbor Dead Time field, it indicates the neighbor router fails.

NOTE:
The value of DCC Neighbor Dead Time should be at least twice the value of DCC Hello Timer.

DCC Retransmission Timer (s)

1 to 65535

Unit: second

Default: 5

Indicates the timer for resending link status packets at the DCC interface.

DCC Delay (s)

1 to 3600

Unit: second

Default: 1

Indicates the hold-off time to send packets at the DCC interface.

LAN Hello Timer (s)

1 to 255

Unit: second

Default: 10

Indicates the timer for sending hello packets at the LAN interface.

Hello packets are used to detect the neighbors in the network where the router resides. Sending hello packets on a regular basis helps check whether the neighbor router interface is in the active state.

LAN Neighbor Dead Time (s)

1 to 65535

Unit: second

Default: 40

Indicates the neighbor dead time for the LAN interface.

If the local router receives no hello packets from the neighbor router after the period in the LAN Neighbor Dead Time field, it indicates the neighbor router fails.

NOTE:
The value of LAN Neighbor Dead Time should be at least twice the value of LAN Hello Timer.

LAN Retransmission Timer (s)

1 to 65535

Unit: second

Default: 5

Indicates the timer for resending link status packets at the LAN interface.

LAN Delay (s)

1 to 3600

Unit: second

Default: 1

Indicates the hold-off time to send packets at the LAN interface.

OSPF Status

Enabled, Disabled

Default: Enabled

Specifies whether to enable the OSPF.

STUB Area

Enabled, Disabled

Default: Disabled

Specifies whether to enable the STUB Area.

NSSA Area

Enabled, Disabled

Default: Disabled

Specifies whether to enable the NSSA Area.

Direct Route

Enabled, Disabled

Default: Disabled

Enables or disables the direct route.

When the OSPF protocol is disabled, the direct route can still be broadcast. The hello packets, however, are blocked and the neighbor relationship cannot be established.

The direct route has the highest priority when the network selects routes.

Static Route

Enabled, Disabled

Default: Disabled

Enables or disables the static route.

A static route must be configured on the U2000 Web LCT manually before you enable the static route.

The priority of the static route is second to the direct route only when the network selects routes.

Default Route

Default: Disabled

Specifies whether the default route automatic flooding function is enabled for ASBRs.

Default OSPF routes are routes whose destination addresses and subnet masks are 0s.

Route ID

For example: 129.9.6.40

Sets the route ID.

Opaque LSA of External Network Port

Enabled, Disabled

Default: Disabled

Enables or disables the opaque LSA.

The opaque LSA can carry information about the traffic engineering.

LAN Interface

Enabled, Disabled

Default: Disabled

Enables or disables the OSPF protocol on the LAN interface.

OSPF Authentication Type of LAN Interface

None, Simple, MD5

Default: MD5

Indicates the authentication type for the default OSPF area of the LAN interface.

By default, OSPF is enabled for LAN interfaces on NEs, and the authentication type is MD5, which helps prevent interconnection with other vendors' NEs.

NOTE:
  • If OSPF Authentication Type of LAN Interface is set to None, Authentication Type for the LAN interface in the OSPF Authentication Parameters area is unlimited.
  • If OSPF Authentication Type of LAN Interface is set to Simple or MD5, the value should be existed in the Authentication Type for the LAN interface in the OSPF Authentication Parameters area. Otherwise, applying certain configurations fails.

DCC Interface

Enabled, Disabled

Enables or disables the OSPF protocol on the DCC interface.

Indicates the type of the interface.
  • LAN indicates the Ethernet network management port or NE cascading port.
  • DCC indicates the DCC channels or inband DCN port.
Authentication Type

None, Simple, MD5

Sets the authentication type of the default OSPF area.
  • If the Authentication Type is none, Authentication Password and MD5 Key do not need to be set, and all preset keys for the related port type are cleared.
  • If the Authentication Type is simple, you can set Authentication Password but not MD5 Key.
  • If the Authentication Type is MD5, you can set Authentication Password and MD5 Key.
NOTE:
For the NE that supports Multi-area OSPF Management:
  • If Authentication Type is set to None for the DCC interface in the OSPF Authentication Parameters area, None is applied to the NE as the Authentication Type of the DCC interface. If Authentication Type is set to another value for the DCC interface in the OSPF Authentication Parameters area, the value of Authentication Type on the Multi-area OSPF Management tab is applied.
  • The value of OSPF Authentication Type of LAN Interface is applied as the Authentication Type of the LAN interface.

Authentication Password

1 to 8 characters

Sets the authentication type of the default OSPF area.

MD5 Key

1 to 255

Sets the MD5 key. MD5 Key is available only when Authentication Type is MD5.
