Multi-area OSPF Management

In this user interface, you can create new OSPF areas. For the new area you created, you can set its authentication type, add network segments or manual route aggregation.

Navigation Path

In the NE Explorer, choose Communication > IP Protocol Stack Managementfrom the Function Tree. Click the Multi-area OSPF Management tab.

Parameters

Field

Value

Description

ID

Example: 10.3.1.0

Sets the area ID to identify the area that the NE belongs to. The OSPF protocol supports the division of equipment into several areas. The equipment in each area generates routes according to the OSPF packets. The equipment in an area exchanges routing information with the equipment in another area. Finally, the routing information of the entire network is generated.
NOTE:

The new OSPF area ID cannot be 255.255.255.255.

Default Area

Yes, No

Specifies wether the area is default area.
NOTE:

The default area can be modified only.

Authentication Type

None, Simple, MD5

Sets the authentication type of OSPF area. OSPF supports packet authentication. Only the OSPF packets passing the authentication can be received; otherwise, the neighbor relationship cannot be established normally. All the equipment in the area must agree on the same area authentication mode and password.
  • None indicates no authentication.
  • Simple indicates that authentication is performed based on the preset password, with the password not encrypted.
  • MD5 indicates that authentication is performed based on the preset password, with the password encrypted in MD5 mode.

Automatic Route Aggregation

Enabled, Disabled

Sets the enabling status of automatic route aggregation.
  • Enable: the number of automatic aggregation routes becomes the same as that of network segments automatically. That is, each configured network segment will generate an aggregation route.
  • Disable: you can create a manual aggregation route. If you want to modify a specified aggregation route, you need to delete this route first, then create a new one.

STUB Type

NON-STUB, STUB, NSSA

Sets the Stub type of OSPF area.
  • For the backbone area, this parameter must be set to NON-STUB.
  • For other areas, it is recommended that you set this parameter to NON-STUB. If required, this parameter can also be set to STUB or NSSA.

IP Address

Example: 126.8.0.0

Sets the IP address of network segment or manual route aggregation.

Subnet Mask

Example: 255.255.0.0

Sets the subnet mask of network segment or manual route aggregation.
