Configuring a Layer 2 DCN
You can configure RTN NEs with a Layer 2 data communication network (DCN) to enable Layer 2 forwarding of DCN packets. In this manner, DCN packets in the same subnet are forwarded at the Layer 2. This simplifies route configuration on the U2000 Web LCT.
- Overview of the Layer 2 DCN Solution
In the Layer 2 data communication network (DCN) solution, the U2000 Web LCT implements NE management through Layer 2 forwarding. DCN data is encapsulated into Ethernet frames and forwarded at Layer 2 between NEs. The Layer 2 DCN solution simplifies configuration for a hybrid network of Huawei's RTN NEs and third-party microwave NEs that support Layer 2 networking. These microwave NEs cannot run dynamic routing protocols, so a large number of static routes must be configured for DCN communication. With a Layer 2 DCN for RTN NEs, the number of configured static routes is greatly reduced.
- Principles
The Layer 2 DCN solution uses bridges to forward DCN data encapsulated into Ethernet frames.
- Layer 2 DCN Configuration Process
This topic describes the Layer 2 DCN configuration process.
- Modifying an NE ID
In the commissioning or expansion process, when you need to adjust the original planning and change the NE ID, you can use the U2000 Web LCT to achieve it.
- Setting NE Communication Parameters
When configuring communication, set the parameters including IP, subnet mask, gateway IP, extended ID, and connection mode for the NE.
- Configuring Protocol Type (Layer 2 DCN)
In Layer 2 data communication network (DCN) networking, the Layer 2 DCN protocol must be enabled on ports.
- Configuring the IP Static Route for an NE
A static route forwards the data between NEs, or between a router and the computer where the U2000 Web LCT is installed.
- Configuring the RSTP Protocol
Ring-shaped or other redundant links may be formed on the physical links between microwave equipment, causing loops to Layer 2 forwarding. You can configure the Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP) to clear broadcast loops.
- Configuration Example (L2 DCN Solution)
This section uses an example to describe how to plan and configure the L2 DCN solution according to network conditions.
