Performing NE ID-based Ping Tests

You can perform an NE ID-based ping (ECC Ping) test on NEs to check the communication between two NEs. From the test result, you can learn the packet loss rate and delay that reflect the network status.

Context

  • The OAM ping test for the Ethernet network serves to test the communication between two NEs on an ECC network, and the ping test for the IP network serve to test the communication between two NEs on an IP network. These two test modes are not applicable to the NEs across the ECC and IP networks. The ECC ping test can be directly performed based on NE IDs to check the communication between two NEs across the ECC and IP networks.

  • The ECC ping test does not support the communication test between NEs on an OSI network or across OSI networks.

Procedure

  1. In the NE Explorer, select an NE and choose Communication > NE ECC Link Management from the Function Tree.
  2. In the NE ECC Link Management Table window, click Reachability Test and choose Ping from the drop-down list.
  3. In the Ping dialog box, set Target NE, Packet Length, and other parameters.

  4. Click Start Test.
  5. View the test result in the Test Result area.

Follow-up Procedure

If the ping test between two NEs is broken, check the network connectivity and service configuration. Perform the test again after troubleshooting.
