Huawei DCN Solutions

Huawei OptiX transmission equipment provides multiple DCN solutions for different networking.

Solution Application Scenario Description Strength and Weakness
HWECC Solution

When a network is comprised of only OptiX transmission equipment, the HWECC solution is the first choice.

In this solution, NEs transmit the data that supports the HWECC protocol over DCN channels.

  • This solution features easy configuration and convenient application.
  • The HWECC protocol is a proprietary protocol. It is not applicable when the network is comprised of both OptiX equipment and third-party equipment.
IP Over DCN Solution

When a network is comprised of both OptiX transmission equipment and third-party equipment that supports the IP Over DCN function, the IP Over DCN solution is the first choice. The IP Over DCN solution is also applicable when the network is comprised of only OptiX transmission equipment.

NOTE:

If the equipment in the center of a network supports the IP Over DCN function and the third-party equipment located at the edge of the network supports the transmission of network management messages to the NMS of the same vendor through the Ethernet, the IP Over DCN solution can be used to implement the DCN communication of the edge equipment.

In this solution, NEs transmit the data that supports the TCP/IP protocols over DCN channels.

  • The TCP/IP protocols are standard protocols. Therefore, they are applicable when a network is comprised of both OptiX equipment and third-party equipment.
  • The configuration of the IP Over DCN solution is more complex than that of the HWECC solution.
DCC Bytes Transparent Transmission Solution

When a network is comprised of both OptiX transmission equipment and third-party SDH equipment that does not support the IP DCN function, the DCC bytes transparent transmission solution can be adopted.

In this solution, different vendors use different DCCs to transmit data. Therefore, it is applicable when different vendors' equipment is deployed on the same network.

  • There is no requirement for the communication between equipment using different network management protocols.
  • The configuration is simple.
  • The NMS and the connected NEs must from the same vendor.
DCC Transmission Through External Clock Ports Solution

If network management messages need to traverse a PDH network or a TDM network that does not support transparent transmission of DCC bytes, the DCC transmission through external clock ports solution is adopted.

In this solution, DCC bytes are loaded into the timeslots of the E1 provided by an external clock port, and the third-party equipment transmits the E1 as an ordinary E1 service.

  • The transmission bandwidth of one E1 service is occupied.
  • The equipment connected to Huawei NMS must be OptiX equipment.
L2 DCN Solution

When a network is comprised of both OptiX transmission equipment and third-party equipment that supports the L2 DCN function, the L2 DCN solution is adopted.

In this solution, the NMS manages NEs by using DCN packets that are encapsulated in Ethernet frames and transmitted through network bridges.

  • The configuration is simple.
  • The network stability is lower than that in the preceding solutions.
