Setting Fiber Parameters for a Line

Fiber parameters for lines mainly include fiber type, refractive indicator, attenuation coefficient, and fiber length. These parameters are useful in an measurement result analysis. To obtain an accurate analysis result, set fiber parameters for a line correctly.

Prerequisites

The submarine cable line is created.

Procedure

  1. In the NE Explorer, select an NE and choose Configuration > Submarine Cable Line Management from the Function Tree.
  2. Perform operations specific to an SLM version as follows:
    • For the SLM 1630 V100R001, select a created line, and set the parameter for fibers in each span.
      NOTE:

The total length of a fiber line cannot exceed 9,000 km. If you set the total length of a fiber line longer than 9000 km, the parameter can be still successfully applied to the NE. When you start the line test, however, an error is displayed, indicating that the preset total length of the fiber is not supported by the equipment.

    • For the SLM 1630 V100R002, select a created line, click the Cross-Span Management tab, and set the parameter for fibers in each span.
      NOTE:

The total length of a fiber line cannot exceed 12,000 km. When you set the total length of a fiber line longer than 12,000 km, the parameter can be still successfully applied to the NE. When you start the line test, however, an error is displayed, indicating that the preset total length of the fiber is not supported by the equipment.
