Creating a BU

After creating a BU, you can manage the BU in the NE Explorer of the SLM NE and submarine network view.

Prerequisites

The SLM NE is available for a BU to bind to.

Context

A BU name must be unique network-wide. After you create a BU and bind the BU to an SLM NE, a BU with the same name cannot be created on another NE. The created BU, however, can be bound to another NE. You can check relevant information of a BU in the NE Explorer of the SLM 1630 that is bound to any of the three ports of the BU.

Procedure

  1. In the NE Explorer, select the NE and choose Configuration > BU Management from the Function Tree.
  2. Click Query to view relevant information of the BUs.

    NOTE:
    When only one BU is selected, the information of the bound line of the BU is displayed.

  3. Click New. In the dialog box that is displayed, set the parameters.

    NOTE:
    • At least one port of the BU is bound to the SLM NE.
    • Enter a name in the BU Name text box and click Query to check whether a BU with the same name exists. If a BU with the same name exists, details of the existing BU will be displayed.
    • SE: connects a port to the grounding point of a BU.

      You can set only one port as the grounding point.

  4. Optional: Click Search Line.

    NOTE:

    If lines are unavailable, go to 5 to proceed with BU creation. If lines are available, you can change Binding Status and BU Control End to bind a BU and lines. For details, see Maintaining a BU.

  5. Click Next.

    NOTE:

    If no power feeding equipment (PFE) is bound to any of the three ports of the BU, a message is displayed indicating that the power supply switching on the BU cannot be verified. In this case, click OK.

  6. In the dialog box that is displayed, set parameters in the Current Direction and Connection Status areas. All settings are displayed in the BU Status Diagram in the left pane.

    NOTE:

    If the ports of a BU are bound to the PFEs, the electricity polarity of the PFEs is displayed in BU Status Diagram.

  7. Click OK to complete the BU creation.

Follow-up Procedure

  • Right-click the new BU in the list and choose View BU Status from the shortcut menu.
    NOTE:

    The current status of the BU is displayed.

  • You can click Modify to modify the following information of a BU: BU address, BU type, voltage drop, bound control unit of each port, power supply unit and bound line info.
  • You can click Bound Line Info to modify the information of the lines bound to the BU.
