BU Management

In this user interface, you can view and configure information about branching units (BUs), delete BUs, switch the power supply on BUs, and modify BU attributes.

Navigation Path

In the NE Explorer, select the NE and choose Configuration > BU Management from the Function Tree.

Button Description

Button

Description

Switch Power Supply

Switches the power supply on a BU.
NOTE:

This button is available only when the line is bounded to the BU and the BU is selected in the attribute list.

Bound Line Info

Modifies information about lines bound to the BU.
NOTE:

This button is available only after you select a record in the BU attribute list.

Search Line

Searches for lines of the SLM NE where the BU is bound.

Shortcut Menu Description

Menu Item

Description

View BU Status

Queries the electricity connection status of the BU from the NMS database.

Parameter Description

Parameter

Value

Description

BU Name

For example: BU1

Indicates the name of a BU.

BU Address

0x01 to 0x1F

Indicates the address of a BU. The value is a hexadecimal ranging from 0x01 to 0x1F.

BU Type

FP BU, OADM BU

Indicates the type of the BU.

Voltage Drop (V)

25 to 30

Default: 28

Indicates the voltage drop on a BU.
NOTE:

When the condition for power supply switching on a BU is not Forced Switching, the terminal voltage on the BU must be lower than 500 V. After Voltage Drop (V) is set for the BU, the terminal voltage on the BU can be calculated by using a formula. This ensures a smooth power supply switching on the BU.

Bound Control Unit of Port A

Bound Control Unit of Port B

Bound Control Unit of Port C

For example: NE41

Indicates the bound control unit of a port on a BU.

Bound Control Unit

For example: NE4

Indicates the bound control unit of a port on a BU.
NOTE:
  • In the NE Explorer, at least one of BU's ports A, B, and C is connected to the current SLM NE.
  • Each port can be bound to one or two SLM NEs.

Power Supply Unit of Port A

Power Supply Unit of Port B

Power Supply Unit of Port C

PFE 1670 NE, -, SE, Power Supply Device

Indicates the power supply unit of a port on a BU.

Power Supply Unit

PFE 1670 NE, -, SE, Power Supply Device

Indicates the power supply unit of a port on a BU.
NOTE:
SE: connects a port to the grounding point of a BU.

You can set only one port as the grounding point.

Line ID

For example: 1

Indicates the ID of a line.

Binding Status

Binding, Not Binding

Indicates the binding status for a line.
NOTE:
  • BU Control End can be set only when Binding Status is Binding.
  • Each BU port can be bound to a maximum of two lines.

BU Control End

SourceSink, Source and Sink

Indicates the control end of a BU.

LMU at Source

LMU at Sink

For example: NE41-5-B2LMU-1(IN/OUT)

Indicates the line monitoring units at the source and sink.

LMI at Source

LMI at Sink

For example: NE41-8-B2LMI-1(RM/TM)

Indicates the line access units at the source and sink.

Line Amplifier Unit at Source

For example: 2-B2LAS-1(RI1/TO1)

Specifies the amplifier unit at the source of a line.

Line Amplifier Unit at Sink

For example: 2-B2LAS-1(RI1/TO1)

Specifies the amplifier unit at the sink of a line.

Remark

N/A

Indicates remarks.

BU Status Diagram

Default:

Indicates the electricity connection status of a BU. The electricity connection status is determined by Current Direction and Connection Status.

Current Direction

In, Out and None

Specifies the current direction of each port.

Connection Status

A-B Connection, A-C Connection, and B-C Connection

Specifies the direction of the main current of a BU.

  • In A-B connection mode, ports A and B are connected and port C is grounded.
  • In A-C connection mode, ports A and C are connected and port B is grounded.
  • In B-C connection mode, ports B and C are connected and port A is grounded.

Control Line ID

For example: 1

Specifies the control line of a BU.

Control End

For example: NE41

Specifies the name of the NE at the control end of a BU.

Switching Condition

Forced Switching

Specifies the conditions for power supply switching on a BU.

NOTE:
  • Forced Switching: switches the power supply when the terminal voltage on a BU exceeds 500 volts.
  • Before switching power supply, make sure the line test is already stopped.

Switching Mode

In-Service Mode and Out-of-Service Mode

Specifies the power supply switching mode for a BU.
  • In-Service Mode: This mode applies to the scenarios where services are running on the submarine cable line on which a BU power switching command is delivered.
  • Out-of-Service Mode: This mode applies to the scenarios where no service is running on the submarine cable line on which a BU power switching command is delivered.
