Conventions

The Web LCT online help uses the following conventions.

GUI and Keyboard Conventions

Action

Description

Button Name

Represents button or key name in the interface or dialog box.

Key1 + Key2

Press the keys concurrently.

Key1, Key2

Press the keys in turn.

Menu Option

The item with a square bracket indicates the menu option.

Menu 1 > Menu 2

Multi-level menu options, for example, Create > File indicates File on the menu option of Create.

NOTE:

For keyboard operations, the term "press" means one or more keys are pressed and then released; "enter" means to enter (input) characters from the keyboard.

Mouse Conventions

Convention

Description

Click

Select and release the primary mouse button without moving the pointer.

Double-click

Press the primary mouse button twice continuously and quickly without moving the pointer.

Drag

Press and hold the primary mouse button and move the pointer to a certain position.

Choose

Click or drag the mouse to activate the Main Menu or a shortcut menu, choose the menu item or click a shortcut button on the toolbar of the menu to execute the corresponding menu action.

Point

To move the mouse till the top end of the cursor stops on certain interface object.

Check

To identify certain interface object by left clicking.

NOTE:

The mouse operations previously described are for users who are right-handed. Thus in most cases, the click, double-click or drag actions all refer to using of the left button of the mouse. If there is a need to use the right button, it is specially pointed out in the text.
